Watson Personality Insight Results Revealed

By EconMatters

IBM has an interesting service -- The Watson Personality Insights "uses linguistic analytics to extract a spectrum of cognitive and social characteristics from the text data that a person generates through blogs, tweets, forum posts, and more." (h/t @WallStreet_Rant).  So we thought it'd be interesting to put EconMatters to the test.  We used one of our latest more formal blog post, and here is the visualized result.

There is also a summary:
You are shrewd, skeptical and tranquil. You are adventurous: you are eager to experience new things. You are imaginative: you have a wild imagination. And you are solemn: you are generally serious and do not joke much. Your choices are driven by a desire for revelry. You consider independence to guide a large part of what you do: you like to set your own goals to decide how to best achieve them. You are relatively unconcerned with tradition: you care more about making your own path than following what others have done.
*Compared to most people who participated in our surveys.
Wall Street Rant repeated the same test for other financial bloggers including Reformed Broker, The Big Picture, Calculated Risk by plugging one of their recent posts.  You may read them here.  After review, we found some common traits among all the writers mentioned here including EconMatters:

Skeptical, Shrewd, Imaginative, Unconcerned, Insensitive

It looks like birds of a feather do flock together?

Along the way, we discovered something quite scary -- we seem to have the most in common with the former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke based on the Watson result (again h/t @WallStreet_Rant, April 20, 2015).  Here is the Watson summary for Bernanke (yellow highlight denotes commonality with EconMatters):
You are shrewd and skeptical. You are imaginative: you have a wild imagination. You are philosophical: you are open to and intrigued by new ideas and love to explore them. And you are independent: you have strong desire to have time to yourself.
Your choices are driven by a desire for belongingness. You are relatively unconcerned with both helping others and taking pleasure in life. You are relatively unconcerned with tradition and taking pleasure in life.  You care more about making your own path than following what others have done.  And you prefer activities with a purpose greater than just personal enjoyment.
*Compared to most people who participated in our surveys.

We think either Watson is after all a computer program running on a fixed algorithm leading to fairly similar personality traits regardless of writing style or we do have what it takes to be the Fed Chairman some day?

You may try the test and see what you think.
