Why a Good Night's Sleep Helps You to Achieve More

We live in a very fast paced society. It's not unusual for people to brag about the fact that they can just keep on going, with only a limited amount of sleep. But is this actually anything to be proud of? The answer is no. The average adult needs between seven and nine hours sleep each night, in order to remain healthy and live a fully productive life. It may be true that people keep up with a hectic work and social life, while getting little sleep, but they would probably achieve more if they made sure to have the right amount of sleep.

We are going to look at why sleep is so important, if you want to achieve more. We are also going to give you some advice about how you can make it easier to get a good night's sleep.

How does lack of sleep affect what you achieve in a day?

One of the main problems, if you do not get enough sleep, is lack of concentration. This can happen even if you miss out on sleep for just one night. The longer you go without getting the sleep that you need, the worse the problem becomes. Lack of sleep also makes you lethargic, so you do not feel like stretching yourself, in order to achieve more during the day. You may also find that your short term memory is affected, if you do not get sufficient sleep. This is because your memory sets while you sleep. Anyone who does not get the sleep that they need is likely to be lacklustre, distracted and possibly forgetful. This is not a good state to be in if you have a lot that you want to achieve.

If you sleep well, you are far more likely to wake up refreshed, alert and ready for the day ahead. This helps you to achieve more.

How to get the sleep that you need

It's not always easy to get to sleep, and to remain asleep through the night. Here are some tips that should be of help to you.

• Try to get into a routine of waking up and going to sleep at around the same time each day.

• Adopt a relaxing routine before you go to bed, such as having a warm bath.

• Make sure that the room you sleep in is as dark as possible. It's especially important that you switch off electrical devices, which emit blue light.

• Avoid stimulants such as caffeine from the late evening onwards

• Make sure that you have a comfortable, and supportive, mattress and bedding, such as a Dreamfoam bedding.

All of these tips should help you to sleep more soundly.

If you want to achieve as much as possible during the day, it's not a good idea to miss out on sleep during the night. You need to be alert and wide awake if you really want to make the most of your time.
