6 Technologies to Make You a Better Driver

Modern technology is changing people’s lives for the better, from how they contact long-distance friends to the vast variety of jobs now available. However, a little-known benefit of modern tech is that it can actually change the way you drive. There are numerous devices now on the market that could help you to improve your road safety, improve your driving experience, and help you to avoid a collision.
If you’re looking for the best gadgets to add onto your car and improve your driving experience, take a look at the following six technologies that can make you a better driver.
  1. Reverse Cameras
Many modern cars now come equipped with reverse cameras, which eliminates a driver’s guesswork when backing up their vehicle. The camera could prevent you from colliding with a moving or stationary vehicle when reversing out of a parking lot or your driveway. It’s definitely one feature you should look for when buying or leasing a new car.

  1. Ignition Interlock Devices
An easy-to-use ignition interlock device is improving road safety considerably. It simply requires a driver to exhale for three seconds at a steady level into the device to submit a breath sample. It will then read the alcohol content on a driver’s breath and state whether they have passed or failed the test. If they have failed, then the ignition will lock, and they’ll be unable to drive the vehicle. However, the ignition will unlock if they pass, meaning they can continue on their journey safely.

  1. Head-Up Display
A head-up display, also called a HUD, is a transparent display that provides a driver with data in a driver’s eye line on the window. You’ll be kept up-to-date with your current speed and the speed limit, so you will never need to take your eyes off the road to look at the dashboard.

  1. Automatic Headlights
Many drivers forget to turn on their headlights when driving in the dark, which can lead to a potential collision on the road. Automatic headlights can, however, improve road safety, as they will automatically turn on when it is dark, and when the engine is running. They’ll also turn off once they’re no longer needed, so you’ll display the correct amount of light without having to worry about blinding other drivers.

  1. Blind Spot Monitoring Systems
Blind spots can be frustrating for drivers, as they might need to act without knowing if a car or object is behind them, such as reversing their vehicle or changing lanes. Blind spot monitoring systems can help you to become a better driver, as they will have a light that will illuminate on your mirror, which will inform you if a car is in your blind spot. Some systems also offer angled mirrors to improve your view.

  1. Traction Control
A loss of traction can lead to an unexpected collision with a car, object or pedestrian, and can often happen when driving across a slippery surface, such as oil, ice, frost or wet mud. Traction control can, however, help take control when you cannot, which can improve road safety.
